Anamore Partner with the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity

World Day for Safety and Health at Work: Anamore Partner with the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity
By Mairead Haughey, Compliance Manager & Head of Resident Relations
At Anamore, health and safety are not just about procedures, PPE, and site rules. It is about our people. It is about making sure that everyone who works in and around our industry feels supported, valued, and safe; not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
That is why we are delighted to announce that Anamore are now proud supporters of The Lighthouse Charity.
The Lighthouse Charity is the only UK & Ireland charity dedicated to the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families. They provide 24/7 support through a confidential helpline and text service, offering help with mental health struggles, financial hardship, family pressures, addiction, and emotional distress.
Their work recognises something many of us in construction already know – the construction industry can be extremely rewarding and fulfilling, but it can also place enormous pressure on individuals and their families. Supporting The Lighthouse Charity is more than a corporate decision for us, it is also a personal one. Like many families, I have personal experience of loved ones losing their battle with mental health. That experience stays with you. It changes how you view wellbeing, work, and the quiet struggles people carry while still turning up and “getting on with it”.
The construction industry is deeply rooted in our locality. Most families here have grown up with it. For many, it has simply been “the way things are”, without ever stopping to reflect on the strain it can place on lives behind the scenes.
We become so accustomed to the realities of this lifestyle that they begin to feel normal: one partner spending long stretches away from home for work, while the other shoulders most of the responsibility for running the household and raising the children alone. In many construction families, even when both parents are working, they can feel like passing ships in the night, rarely sharing meaningful time together. Despite the long hours and relentless effort, too many families still find themselves barely making ends meet, working incredibly hard yet only just getting by.
These pressures can slowly build. Often, they are not talked about. People feel they must stay strong, keep working, and not complain, because that is what the industry has always demanded.
Support that can change lives
This is where The Lighthouse Charity makes such a vital difference. They provide:
- Immediate crisis support for those struggling with mental health or suicidal thoughts
- Confidential, non‑judgemental listening, day or night
- Financial and debt support for families under pressure
- Help with relationship breakdown, addiction, bereavement, and burnout.
- Ongoing support not just for workers, but for their partners and families
Sometimes, the most important thing someone needs is simply to know that they are not alone, that it is ok to ask for help, and that someone understands the realities of life in construction.
By supporting The Lighthouse Charity, Anamore is openly reaffirming its commitment to the people behind the work; recognising that mental health deserves the same attention as physical safety, that reaching out for support should be seen as a strength, and that families play a vital role in individual wellbeing. It reflects an understanding that real safety at work means caring for the whole person, not just the task at hand.
On this World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we encourage everyone across our industry; employers, colleagues, friends and families to look out for one another, to start conversations that may feel difficult, and to use the support that’s available. Because protecting lives is about more than preventing accidents; it’s about supporting wellbeing every day, both on and off site.
